Hi! Sorry I haven't posted anything recently. I've been working on a rather ambitious illustration, and what you see here is a fragment of it. It's a detail from the overall work, with a background - and hastily-drawn clouds - added to it to make it into a picture all its own. I've always loved dirigibles, zeppelins, blimps, airships...what a leisurely, peaceful and fantastical mode of travel! I hope to ride in a dirigible/zeppelin/blimp/airship some day...but until then, I'll just have to draw and dream about it. This was rendered in PSE4 and Xara - I call it a "traditional" painting because the subcategories here for digital don't include "fantasy" for some reason. Hope I'm forgiven.
I'm such a slowpoke! The image appears to be removed from the site now, but I did get a chance to look at it and really liked how it was turning out. The colors were what struck me as impressive, a very nice mix of pastels, it would fit in with the decor of just about any child's room. The idea is imaginative too, appropriate for the theme of daydreaming and imagination! I don't think you're overdoing it. The only thing I remember standing out a bit too much, perhaps, was the blimp itself - it's a very detailed work of art in itself, whereas the other outer figures (the moon and dragon) were quite simplified. Still, I like the blimp too much to even think of suggesting simplifying it! I don't know what else you were wanting to add to this one, but I can't wait to see it.
Thank you so much, Nightlyre! I actually removed the picture myself, since it's still a work in progress. But I just now added a close-up of the dragon from the picture to my DA page here: [link] He's a bit more detailed now (and he's still not fully finished), but as he's the first dragon I've ever digitally painted, I couldn't wait to add him to my gallery as a stand-alone picture. I'm hoping he'll get along with your wonderful dragons; as you can see, he's a pretty friendly guy.
Aw, he's cute! Well done for the first time you'd done a dragon digitally, too. Well, careful, a couple of my dragons do bite, but others are pretty friendly.
This is lovely! I hope you don't mind the comparison, but it reminds me of some of the animation from Yellow Submarine. I really like the vivid colors and the crispness of the lines. My eye is very much drawn to the face on the zeppelin (as it should be), so it's a nice treat to look down and discover all of the rest of the detail there! If this is just a fragment, will you be able to share the entire illustration when it's done? Can't wait to see it.
