Remember when you were a kid, and your imagination sent you on wild flights of fancy, where you might soar above a witch's haunted castle, wave hello at bluebirds flying over the rainbow, and lasso the moon? As you gaze upon this picture, give your imagination free rein...and be that kid again.
first of all, who said I'm still not a kid inside?!?!?!
it's a beautiful masterpiece. it has everything that could let your imagination soar! it has a clear view on the main part of the picture. I feel that each masterpiece should show the main ..."feeling" in it. the glowing and/or sparkling parts actually look like their glowing and/or sparkling. it looks very realistic, yet it looks like a fantasy. It is one of the most beautiful masterpieces I have ever seen. it is enough to make me want to draw! you are one of the most talented artists I've ever seen. Rock on!!!
First and foremost, apart from being a very cute concept and play on words, this is a very well contained illustration that manages to incorporate a lot of colors and imagery without being visually overwhelming. The stylization of the fireworks, moon glow, and dragon/dinosaur scales is an example of using largely the same technique effectively across different applications.
That said, the only elements I feel that sort of works against the piece is the sterile boarder and font choice. The textures in this piece are few, but they, combined with the rendering on the figures and use of gradients in the background elements, are enough to keep it from feeling flat. I think if there was just some minimal rendering or texture on the boarder, it would tie in better with the rest of the piece.
On the font, while I understand the choice for a somewhat whimsical font in keeping with the subject matter, because the piece itself sort of calls back to illustrations from the 1950s-60s, the font feels a little too modern for it.
Overall, it's a wonderful visualization for an often-heard phrase, and a very pleasant piece.
Very good job working in all these different concepts into the picture. This reminds me of the cover illustrations for children's books. They usually have a theme that revolves around aiming high, achieving, etc, symbolized by space, rockets, the sky, etc. Good job.
What do you mean, 'remember when you were a kid and you used to'? ... I still of this kind of thing now ;D Without this imagination, where would we artists be?
That said, hehe, this is an amazing illustration and I LOVE it ;D
This reminds me of a Disney musical short I used to see as a very little kid. It was about this boy and he would become a cowboy in his dreams. The song doesn't really fit with your picture, but the idea feel similar. It was called "A Cowboy Needs a Horse," I found it right now actually: [link]
And the picture, wow, it really captures a little kids imagination in a nutshell. Congrats on the DD!
I wish I did this. Neatly executed and I personally like the combination of pastel color. Looks calm a filled with love, care, appreciate, and IMAGINATION! Hey, I got less imaginary friend than him! I am jealous! haha...just kidding!
